1) What is your point of view about the tobacco control measures in effect in the city of Edmonton?
As we know, Edmonton government legislated the smoking ban in public areas In July 2003. In the year of 2007, the The Tobacco Reduction Act prohibits the display, advertising and promotion of tobacco products at the retail level. As a representative from manufactory of tobacco, I bring with me a statistics from Alberta Finance. According to Alberta finance, annual gross sales volumes of cigarettes and cigarette equivalents increased gradually from 2003 to 2006. Although the rate of current smokers in Alberta decreased from 26% to 21%, and government had taken several actions to control the use of tobacco, the fact is ours sales was increasing gradually during the past several years. And smokers had to afford a higher tax.
